BBQ Rack of Lamb with a Glazed Crispy Crust on the Grill

BBQ Rack of Lamb: The Best Grilling Tips & Techniques for Perfect Results

This BBQ Rack of Lamb is the perfect dish for a special occasion or family gathering. The rack is marinated in a mix of aromatic herbs, garlic, and Dijon mustard, which infuses the lamb with rich flavor. After grilling, the lamb is tender, juicy, and caramelized to perfection with a crispy crust. Pair it with your favorite sides for an unforgettable meal.

  • Total Time: 13 minute
  • Yield: Serves 4

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 rack of lamb (about 8 ribs), French-trimmed

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 tbsp fresh rosemary, chopped

  • 1 tbsp fresh thyme, chopped

  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard

  • Zest of 1 lemon

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 1 tbsp honey (optional for glaze)

  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar (optional for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Marinade: In a bowl, combine olive oil, minced garlic, rosemary, thyme, Dijon mustard, lemon zest, salt, and pepper. Mix well to create the marinade.

  2. Marinate the Lamb: Rub the marinade all over the rack of lamb, making sure to coat the meat evenly. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to infuse.

  3. Preheat the Grill: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (about 375°F).

  4. Grill the Lamb: Place the lamb rack on the grill over indirect heat. Close the lid and cook for about 15-20 minutes for medium-rare, or longer if you prefer it more well-done.

  5. Sear the Lamb: For a crispy exterior, move the lamb over direct heat for the last 3-4 minutes of grilling.

  6. Rest the Lamb: Remove the lamb from the grill and allow it to rest for 10 minutes before slicing to retain its juices.

  7. Optional Glaze: For an added glaze, combine honey and balsamic vinegar, then brush it onto the lamb during the final moments of grilling.

  8. Serve: Slice the rack between the bones into individual chops and serve with your favorite sides.

Notes

  • Cooking Time: Grill times may vary based on the thickness of the rack and your preferred level of doneness. Use a meat thermometer for accuracy.

  • Resting Time: Let the lamb rest for at least 10 minutes after grilling to preserve the juices.

  • Serving Suggestion: This dish pairs well with mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, and a fresh salad.

  • Glazing Option: Adding a glaze made of honey and balsamic vinegar enhances the flavor with a touch of sweetness and tang.
